Veterans Day 2013 Sleepy Hollow

SHES Veterans Day 2013

At Sleepy Hollow we believe in the importance of honoring Veterans Day.  The activities this past November 11th were planned to allow our students to honor those who have served and continue to serve our great country.  The Fun Run in the morning was an exciting way to kick off the day.  The assembly in the afternoon was an emotional experience for our school and a way to recognize local Veterans who are connected to Sleepy Hollow.  Our third graders sang the hymns of each of the branches and Veterans who were present introduced themselves and where they served.  Fourth grade students read pieces about what Veterans mean to them and our country.  The day concluded with our third grade students performing “A Salute to Veterans.”

Thank you to all of our third and fourth grade students, and our parent volunteers and teachers who planned the day, our guests from the VFW who presented the colors, and our trumpet player.  And thank you to our Veterans who were present and to all those who served and who continue to serve.

It makes us proud to know that the students of Sleepy Hollow will move forward understanding the significance of Veterans Day.
