Sleepy Hollow wins "It Takes a Village" Honorable Mention Award
September 27, 2016
Dear Mr. Lentz,
As you are aware, your school was nominated for the 2016 Everyone Reading Illinois’s “It Takes a Village” award for best practices in teaching reading. This award has been endowed by one of our board member’s family and is intended to recognize a school that has performed at an exemplary level in meeting the educational needs of individuals with dyslexia.
This year the selection committee had a very difficult choice since it received many outstanding and wonderful nominations which reflect the research and best practices for teaching reading to those students who struggle with reading. The ITAV Committee deemed necessary to award two Honorable Mentions due to the excellent applications. On behalf of the Board of Directors of ERI, we are especially pleased to announce that Sleepy Hollow was selected to receive a 2016 ITAV Honorable Mention designation. With the Honorable Mention designation, ERI will automatically reconsider your nomination for next year’s award. Those schools with the Honorable Mention designation will be recognized at our annual conference, Dynamics of Dyslexia, during the award ceremony, which takes place on the second day of the conference, October 5, 2016, 8:15-8:45a.m., immediately before our keynote speaker presentation. Our conference takes place at the NIU Conference Center, 1120 E. Diehl Rd. in Naperville.
Please accept a one day free admission for one person on Wednesday, October 5th in order to be recognized in the award ceremony and to attend the many informative breakout sessions throughout the day.The person may register on our website at www.everyonereadingillinois.org and entering “WINNER” in the promo code box. As many individuals as your school team would like to bring, including your nominator, are invited to attend the ceremony and keynote presentation. Please contact our office staff at firstname.lastname@example.org to let them know how many would like to attend the ceremony and presentation.
Again, you do not have to resubmit your application in 2017, and someone from the committee will be in touch next spring to see if there are any updates or changes. Everyone Reading Illinois congratulates you on your nomination and Honorable Mention. It is because of schools such as yours, that children who experience reading difficulty make progress and are given access to the approaches necessary to make a difference in their lives.
Our sincere gratitude for all you are doing and will continue to do.
