Veterans Day Assembly

Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

Similar to the past seven years, we would like to honor and thank all the veterans related to Sleepy Hollow students at the Veterans Day Assembly scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th.  We greatly appreciate those veterans who joined us in the past.  They certainly made a lasting impression on the students and staff!  Those veterans who are able to attend the assembly this year will be asked to come on stage to share their name, branch of service, where and when they served, and who they are related to from Sleepy Hollow.  They are more than welcome to come in uniform or in any military issued gear they possess.  Veterans will be escorted to the front of the audience by the Sleepy Hollow student(s) they are related to.  We will acknowledge the veterans according to their branch of service.  The third graders will sing each branch’s hymn.  From there, each individual veteran will share his/her information.  This will be a memorable experience for all, and it is a great way for the students to see just how many families have service members.  Sleepy Hollow cannot express enough appreciation for our veterans.

If you have a family member planning to be recognized, please RSVP to this event by emailing Sarah Skrabacz at the following email address:  Please include the following information in the email: the veteran’s name, branch of service, and the Sleepy Hollow student(s) he/she is related to.  It is important that we have an idea of how many veterans will be attending so we can plan accordingly for seating.  Please put “Assembly RSVP” in the subject line.

Cake and Punch Social for the Veterans

We would like to invite all veterans and their family members to the cafeteria immediately following the assembly for cake and punch as our small way to further thank them.  Please include in your RSVP for the assembly if the veteran is planning to attend the social and if any family members will be present, so we have the appropriate amount of cake and punch.  Please RSVP no later than Friday, November 3rd.

 Flags of Honor/ Slideshow

We are fortunate to be able to display the Flags of Honor again this year at Sleepy Hollow.  You may recall the flags that were setup along the sidewalk in front of the school days prior to the assembly.  These were graciously set up by Jerry Christopherson, the president of True Patriots Care.  He will be setting up the flags again this year.  Each flag will be in honor of a veteran related to Sleepy Hollow students.  If you would like to have a flag created in honor of a related veteran, please send a picture of the loved one you would like recognized to and include the following information: the veteran’s name, branch of service, when and where he/she served, and the Sleepy Hollow student(s) he/she is related to.  Please have the information and picture submitted to Sarah no later than November 3rd.   A slide will be created for each veteran and will be attached to its own flag.  Each slide will also appear in a slideshow that will be shown at the assembly.  Students, staff, and community members will be able to walk through the Flags of Honor to learn more about all our veterans.  If you have someone special who plans to attend the assembly, or someone who is currently overseas, is no longer with us, or is just unable to attend the assembly, we would like to recognize them in our Flags of Honor.   Please email should you have any questions pertaining to this.
